WHAT WE LOVE:
The Wheatley Halo is a 14k gold plated Swarovski crystal Everyday Tiara™ — a vine halo headband available in all‑clear or clear and olive green crystal — named for poet Phillis Wheatley and inspired by an 18th‑century snuff box at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Not every revolutionary carried a musket. Phillis Wheatley carried a pen. Brought to America as an enslaved child, she became the first African American — and one of the first women in the colonies — to publish a book of poetry, writing about liberty and freedom, including a 1775 poem to George Washington. She gained her own freedom around 1773–74.
We photographed the Wheatley Halo at The Met beside the real “No Stamp Act” teapot (English creamware, c. 1766–75), lettered “No Stamp Act” on one side and “American Liberty Restored” on the other to celebrate the 1766 repeal of the Stamp Act — proof that protest happened over tea, on the everyday objects people lived with.
The olive green colorway echoes the original snuff box and symbolizes the rebirth of a nation.

It is our love letter to the ordinary men and women who gave everything they had — including their lives — so that the rest of us could inherit a free nation.

WHY FRAUNCES TAVERN and THE MET:
Sophie Kaye photographed the collection on location at Fraunces Tavern — the Lower Manhattan tavern where George Washington bid farewell to his officers on December 4, 1783 — and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, home to one of the world’s most significant collections of American Revolutionary‑era decorative arts and portraiture. Every piece began as a study of a specific artwork or artifact. One location is where the Revolution was lived; the other is where its art has been preserved. The REVOLUTION Collection exists in the space between the two.
DESIGNER’S INSPIRATION / MUSINGS:
The vine on the Wheatley Halo comes from an 18th‑century snuff box at The Metropolitan Museum of Art — a tiny, precious object someone carried every day. I chose olive green because a vine is always growing, and it felt like the rebirth of a nation.
Phillis Wheatley carried a pen instead of a musket, and I love that her revolution was one of words. Photographing this piece beside the “No Stamp Act” teapot felt perfect — proof that protest lived in everyday objects, just like this crown is meant to live in your everyday.
